Description

Winsor Banks was the son of Edward and Rosa Banks of Cardiff and the husband of Winifred Mary Banks of Barry, Glamorganshire.

On the morning of 11 Sep 1941, U-82 fired three torpedoes at three ships in convoy SC-42 east of Cape Farewell, scoring two hits.

The S.S. Empire Crossbill sank immediately and the Scania was later sunk by U-202.

The Empire Crossbill was lost with all hands - 38 crew members, nine gunners and one passenger. Banks was serving as the Cook and is remmbered on the Tower Hill Memorial.
