Frank George Griffiths was born in Norton Canon nr. Hereford, Herefordshire, the only son of Henry and Amelia Sophia Griffiths, living at 2 Poplar Villas, Portfields, Hereford and working as an Apprentice Clothier.

Serving with the 1/1st Battalion Herefordshire Regiment, Griffiths was awarded the French Croix de Guerre for bravery on the same Gazette date as Ptes. E.J. Clarke, T.C. Davies, L.Cpls. F.J. Harper, J. Rodgers and C.S.M. J. Foley of the regiment were awarded the Military Medal. The Birmingham Post of 30 Jan 1919 lists the award of Griffiths' M.M. alongside Cpl. E.W. Baird, Ptes. J. Bannister, J.P. Berry, W.A. Brown, W. Evans, C. Jarman, T. Jennings, J.C. Johns and G. Richards of the Battalion.
