Description

Arthur George Robert Thorne was born in Gosport, Hampshire on 11 Mar 1897 and enlisted with the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 31 Apr 1911, aged just 14 years, serving on H.M.S. Mars, Cornwall, Lancaster and as a Bugler in the Persian Gulf aboard H.M.S. Dartmouth, and on the outbreak of WWI at H.M.S. Pelorus from 17 Apr 1914 to 10 Sep 1915, joining the Plymouth Division aboard H.M.S. Berwick from 17 June 1916 to 21 Apr 1918, joining the crew of H.M.S. Revenge, joining the Royal Fleet Reserve, finally discharged on 18 Feb 1929.
