Description

William Orlando Francis was born in Montgomery, the son of Thomas and Susannah Francis of The Outtrack, Craven Arms, Salop, landlord and landlady of The Tally Ho, Boulden, Diddlebury, Craven Arms, Salop.

William joined the 7th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry with his brother, Thomas, given consecutive regimental numbers and both entering France on 27 Oct 1915.

William Died of Wounds on 2 Apr 1916 , with Thomas Killed In Action the very next day on 3 Apr 1916.

William is commemorated at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery and Thomas on the Menin Gate Memorial.

A third brother, John Francis, with same address and next-of-kin, served with the 31st Field Ambulance in Salonica and attached to the 2nd Comany Divisional Train, surving the war.
