Description

Ensign Robert Peel was appointed Lieutenant by purchase with the 13th Foot on 8 Nov 1850, promoted to the rank of Captain on 25 Nov 1853, serving in the Crimea with the regiment and entitled to the Crimea Medal with Sebastopol clasp and Turkish Crimea Medal.

Serving during the Indian Mutiny, Peel commanded three battalions of the regiment at Toolsepore and Domereagunge with Major Tyler and Captain H.M. Jones, leading a patrol into Nepal in pursuit of rebels in Jan 1859.

Peel was made Major without purchase, vice Brevet-Colonel Cox, C.B. on 4 Jan 1865, retiring 9 Mar 1867.
