
This dagger is attributed to General Major Hans Erdmann who was appointed to the rank of 'Oberst' (Colonel) on 1 June 1939.
Hans Erdmann was born on 18 Feb 1895, serving as an Aerail Observer during WWI, appointed Chief of Staff of the Commander of Luftgau, Berlin on 1 June 1935, commanding the Flieger-Regiment 61 in the early part of WWII, becoming Commander of the 9th Luftwaffe Field Division deployed to Russia in Jan 1943, then appointed Fuhrer Reserve in the Luftwaffe High Command, Commanding Luftwaffe Regional Headquarters North in Hamburg, made a British Prisoner of War on 8 May 1945 and transferred to Island Farm Special Camp 11 (site of the 'German Great Escape') in Bridgend Wales, the area from where this dagger was sourced.
