Description

Lance Corporal Alfred Steane was born in Abingdon, Berkshire, the son of Caleb John and Rose Ellen Steane and husband of Marion Steane of 29 Cowper Road, Gillingham, Kent.

Steane was Mentioned in Despatches in the London Gazette of 22 June 1915 after he was Killed In Action on 21 Feb 1915, just months after receiving this Princess Mary gift. He was 33 years of age and is buried at Tuileries British Cemetery.
