Description

James Parr joined the Royal Navy as Boy 3rd Class on 18 May 1808 aboard H.M.S. Éclair, until discharged on 3 June 1814. Parr then volunteered again on 13 May 1820 aboard H.M.S. Cambrian, which fought a fierce action with two privateers in the Negropont Channel, the crew fighting off pirates that had boarded.

On 20 Oct 1827, the Cambrian entered Navarin Bay, taking part in the destruction of the Turkish Fleet. On 31 Jan 1828, the Cambrian attacked a pirate stronghold on the island of Grabusa off Crete. On departing, the Cambrian was wrecked on a reef, with no loss of life.

On 4 May 1828, James Parr was discharged from service for a final time.
