Arthur Thomas Searle Dickinson was born in Swansea, Glamorganshire, the son of Commander T.S. Dickinson, Royal Navy and Louisa Elizabeth Izat of Petersfield, Hampshire.
Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant with the Somerset Light Light Infantry in Feb 1895, serving with the 1st Battalion as part of the Mohmand Field Force on the Punjab Frontier in 1897 and promoted to Lieutenant in Apr 1898.
Dickinson then transferred to the Indian Army and served with the 1st Sikh Infantry in China at the Relief of Pekin (awarded the China Medal with Relief of Pekin clasp, ex-Noonans 20 Sep 1013, £1000 hammer).
In 1902, Dickinson served on the North West Frontier against the Darwesh Khel Waziris. Dickinson married Constance Dickinson of "Wyndcroft", Petersfield. On the outbreak of WWI, Dickinson was serving as Brigade Major with the 51st Sikhs and was thrice Mentioned in Despatches.
Dickinson was Killed In Action in Mesopotamia on 22 Nov 1915, aged 40 years, and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial.
