Description

Stabsgefreiter Franz Springer was a member of the famous Schwere Panzer Abteilung 502 Tiger tank crews.

Springer first served with Panzer Regiment 4 and was recorded as Wounded during the invasion of France on 17 July 1940 by a bullet wound, receiving both the Panzer Assault Badge and Iron Cross 2nd class. Springer rose through the ranks rapidly and, in 1943, was transferred to the newly formed Schw. Pz. Abt. 502, earning the Iron Cross 1st Class, Eastern Front Campaign Medal and the coveted second grade 25 Assaults of the Panzer Assault Badge, with his certificate for this signed on 1 Sep 1944, the same date and signature applied to Otto Carius' 50 Assaults Badge Certificate.
