Distinguished Conduct Medal Gazetted 26 Apr 1917:

"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He displayed great courage and determination in maintaining communication in spite of the fact that his telephone was twice buried by hostile shell fire."

Sydney Trevor Thomas was born in Llwynhendy, Llanelli and lived at 4 Carmel Street, Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen, Neath Port Talbot, working as a butcher before joining the Welsh Guards on 12 Dec 1915 and posted with the 2nd Battalion on 27 Jan 1916, transferring to the 1st Battalion and demobilised on 25 Sep 1919.
