Dela Haye, 17 Darlington Street, Wolverhampton and scabbard engraved: 'Salisbury Plain 1906, Conway N.W. 1907, Lichfield Barracks 1908, Towyn N.W. 1908 & 1909, Himley 1909, Buxton 1910, Abergavenny 1911 and King George V's Levee May 29th 1911', complete with portepee knot. Blue cloth helmet with South Staffordshire Regiment Territorials helmet plate, interior liner stamped: 'P. De La Haye Military Tailor, 17 Darlington St., Wolverhampton and 'Lieut. R.D. Clayton, 6th South Staffs. Regt., 1906' in ink and regimentally embossed framed portrait with sword, belt and blue cloth helmet, with 'R.D.B. Clayton (Lieut.) 6th South Staffs. Regt. 1908.'

Description

Reginald Douglas Barnett Clayton was born on 30 Jan 1884 and lived at Hardwick Manor. Clayton was appointed to the 6th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment from the 3rd Volunteer Battalion on 1 Apr 1908. Clayton was found dead on the floor of his bathroom at Hardwick Manor, Bredon, near Tewksesbury, with his estate and effects being auctioned on 14 May 1948.
