Description

William Dott was born in Kingussie on 22 Feb 1892, the son of John and Helen Dott of Spey Street, Kingussie, Inverness-shire and brother of Alexander, working as a baker and at the Central Contol Board Liquor Traffic, enlisting at Kingussie with the 4th Battalion, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders on 31 Mar 1908, entering France on 19 Feb 1915 and recorded as wounded in action in the field on 8 Mar 1915 and discharged on on 10 Apr 1916, re-enlisting at Fort George with the 4th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders, attached to the 5th Battalion and renumbered 202981.

William was Killed In Action on 12 Oct 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial and Kingussie Memorial.

William's brother, Alexander, also served with the 4th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders and entered France on the same date of 19 Feb 1915.

Serving with "C" Company, 11th Platoon, 4th Cameron Highlanders, Alexander was pronounced 'Missing' on the 17 May 1915 at Festubert, later recorded as Killed In Action on 18 May 1915 after an Enquiry on 26 June 1915.

He is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial and Kingussie Memorial.
