Description

Stanley William Read was born in Regents Park, Middlesex in 1897, the son of Harold Edward and Emily Maud Read of 38 Harcourt Street, Luton, Bedfordshire.

Serving with the 10th Battalion (1st Rhondda) Welsh Regiment and attached to the 1st Entrenching Battalion, 9th Welsh Regiment when he Died of Wounds on 5 May 1918, aged 21 years.

He is buried at Arneke British Cemetery.

Stanley's brother, Frederick Charles Read was born in Holloway, Middlesex, also in 1897 and was serving with "B" Company, 15th (Carmarthenshire) Battalion, Welsh Regiment on 30 Apr 1917 when he was Killed In Action. He is remembered on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.
