John William Janes lived at 19 Roseberry Terrace, Sandown, the Isle of Wight and attested at Winchester on 14 Mar 1901 and served in South Africa woth the 50th (2nd Hants) Company, 17th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, serving in South Africa from 13 Mar 1901 to 10 Sep 1902 and discharged as medically unfit for further service on 15 Oct 1902. Janes then served with the and Dragoon Guards during WWI.
