Description

James George Mott was born in Croydon, Surrey in 1884, the son of James and Jane Mott of 67 Clarendon Rd., West Croydon and worked as a railway porter. Joining the 7th (City of London) Battalion London Regiment, Mott served at home from 9 Dec 1915, entering France on 24 Oct 1917 and transferring to the 7th Battalion (Territorial) (Robin Hood), Notts And Derby Regiment (Sherwood Foresters) and attached to the 2nd Battalion when he was severely wounded by shrapnel to the left leg on 1 Dec 1917.

Evacuated to the 6th General Hospital, Rouen, Mott died of the wounds sustained on 7 Dec 1917, leaving a broken wrist watch, letters, razor blades, a mirror, wallet, purse and photographs that were sent home to his mother. He is buried at St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen and commemorated on the St. Georges Chapel, West Croydon Memorial. Frederick Charles Mott served with the 4th (City of London) Battalion, London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers), entering France on 16 Mar 1917 and Killed In Action on 27 Sep 1917, with his medals and King's Letter sent to Jane Mott at 67 Clarendon Rd. on 21 Nov 1922. He is commemorated on the St. Georges Chapel, West Croydon Memorial. Thomas Alfred Mott was born in Croydon in 1897 and served with the 1/4th Battalion, Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment, serving in India and Afghanistan after the war, issued his India General Service Medal with clasp at Hounslow on 15 Aug 1921 and dying in 1965.
