Description

Pte. J.A. Carr was serving with the 1st Battalion, The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment) when he was captured at the Battle of Alemhamza on 15 Dec 1941. The 1st Buffs were attacked by 40 German tanks and an infantry brigade at Point 204 which they were holding, causing Rommel to fall back beyond Benghazi. Colonel Richard Dandy and the battalion were overrun, as was the 31st Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, and Dandy destroyed all codes and papers before he was taken prisoner. Carr was imprisoned in Urbisaglia Macerata, Italy and Stalag Camp 8A at Görlitz and liberated on 14 July 1945.
