M.I.D. Gazetted 19 Sep 1946. George Reginald Perkins worked as a butcher with an address of Chapel St., Hingham, nr. Norwich, Norfolk, before attesting with the 92nd Battery 14 (Bedfs. & Herts.) Med. Regt., Royal Artillery on 24 Aug 1937, being evacuated from Dunkirk and then serving with 1 Commando. Perkins is recorded as recorded as being wounded when serving with 1 Commando in North Africa at the Battle of Sedienane on 27 Feb 1943. His Release Certificate records the following from his Commanding Officer: "Sgt. Perkins is a senior N.C.O. of the very best type and has an army record to be proud of, having taken part in many Commando raids on Europe from Norway to France, after being evacuated with the B.E.F. until he went to India and China with the same unit."
