Winston Davies was the son of Edward and Martha Davies of Ammanford, Carmarthenshire and was serving as Ordnance Artificer 3rd Class aboard H.M.S. Warwick, when on 20 Feb 1944, she was struck aft by one of two torpedoes fired from U-413 off Trevose Head, Cornwall.
The stern broke off abaft of the engine room and the ship stayed afloat for about 4 minutes until the bulkhead collapsed and caused her to sink.
Davies was Killed in Action and is remembered on the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
