Description

Robert Missett was born in Castleconnor, Ballina, Mayo, Ireland in 1769 and worked as a Saddler before enlisting with the the King's Dragoon Guards in London on 16 June 1793, aged 24 years.

Missett is on the Musters as Saddler Sergeant from 25 Dec 1814 to 24 Mar 1815. Present during the Battle of Waterloo with 1 Troop, Missett was 46 years old at this stage and is on the Distribution and Prize List of the First Regiment of Dragoon Guards for the Prize Money Granter for the Battle of Waterloo and the Capture of Paris in the year 1815 Paid to the Senior Ranks - Fifth Class: Saddler Sgt. Missett, Robert, £19-4-4 paid on 7th August to Paymaster John Webster.

After the battle, from 24 April to 24 June 1815 he is recorded as in Brussels sick. From 1815 to 1816 Missett is at St. Levins. Missett's service totalled 30 years and 188 days, with 8 years 192 days as a Private and 19 years, 361 days as Sergeant, plus two years' service for Waterloo.

Missett was discharged on 20 Dec 1821 aged 52 years with height listed as 5ft 9 1/2 ins, black hair, hazel eyes and fresh complexion.
