Description

Robert Hill was born in Rochdale, Lancaster in 1780, enlisting with the Norfolk Fencibles Cavalry in 1799 for 191 days before joining the King's Dragoon Guards in Manchester on 19 May 1800, aged 20 years, serving in 7 Troop of Captain Thomas Nutcombe Quicke from 25 Mar to 24 Apr 1815, appearing on the Distribution and Prize List of the First Regiment of Dragoon Guards for the Prize Money Granted for the Battle of Waterloo and the Capture of Paris in the Year 1815. Monies paid to Other Ranks. Sixth Class: Private Hill, Robert, £2-11-4 paid on 7th August to Paymaster John Webster.

Hill was discharged at the age of 41 years due to chronic rheumatism. The Surgeon William Jones' Report records: "I certify that Private Robert Hill reports himself to have been subject to chronic rheumatism since he was employed on Revenue Duty in 1820". His conduct was good, witnessed by Lt. T.C Brander, with Robert Hill signing with an 'X'.
