Description

William Frederick Richards was appointed a Cornet with the 9th Lancers on 24 Jan 1845 in the campaign on the Sutlej in 1846 and was present at the Battle of Sobraon (medal).

Promoted to Lieutenant on 31 Dec 1847, Richards transferred to the 17th Lancers, promoted to Captain in 1852 and then to the 5th Dragoon Guards, serving in the Crimea in 1855, including at the Siege of Sebastopol (medal) and the Battle of Tchenaya.
