SOUTH AFRICA 1853 MEDAL TO MAJ.-GEN. THE HON. A.G.C. CHICHESTER, 6TH REGT.

The Honourable Augustus George Charles Chichester was born in Oxford on 20 May 1822, appointed Ensign on 20 May 1822, serving with the 71st Foot as Lieutenant on 22 Nov 1842, transferring to the 65th Foot, 5th Foot and Coldstream Guards, then transferring to the 6th Foot serving in South Africa during the Kaffir Wars as Lieutenant, promoted to Captain on 3 Aug 1849, then transferring to the 77th Foot, becoming Lt.-Col. on 16 June 1858 and posted to the 87th Foot on 17 Aug 1855, lastly serving with the 16th Foot, promoted to Brevet Colonel, then Major-General on 24 Dec 1868 and retiring as Honorary Lieut.-General on 20 May 1884.
