Description

Thomas Joseph L'Estrange was born in Dublin South, Ireland in 1891 and commissioned with the 4th Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, appointed to a Militia Infantry Commission as Captain with the 5th Battalion, the Rifle Brigade (Queen's Own Tower Hamlet's Militia) on 5 Dec 1901, taking part in the operations in the Cape Colony and Orange Free State from Jan to May 1902, appointed Honorary Captain, a Captain in the reserve and called up for service during WWI on 2 Oct 1914, posted to the 11th Battalion, Rifle Brigade, serving at home in Winchester as part of the 20th Division, residing at the Junior Naval and Military Club, Piccadilly.
