Charles Frederick Good was born on 22 May 1848 in Lymington, Hampshire, the son of William Good and Mary Agnes, entering the Royal Navy as Assistant Clerk at Victory 14 Dec 1864, appointed to HMS Irresistible 4 Jan 1865 and promoted Clerk 15 Dec 1865.
Joining H.M.S. Dryad on 10 May 1867, Good participated in the 1868 Abyssinia operations. Appointed Assistant Paymaster still aboard H.M.S. Dryad on 21 May 1869, Good was promoted Paymaster aboard H.M.S. Royal Adelaide, Staff Paymaster aboard H.M.S. Cleopatra on 29 Nov 1888 and Fleet Paymaster aboard H.M.S. Impregnable on 19 Sep 1896.
Appointed to President (London) for special service at the Admiralty on 20 Jan 1903, Good was appointed to H.M. Coast Guard on 2 Mar 1903 and promoted Paymaster in Chief on 16 Feb 1905.
Good’s final appointment was Vernon 2 July 1906 from where he retired on 24 Oct 1907. The 1911 census records Charles is a retired Naval officer residing with his wife Mary Agnes (married in 1908), step son and step daughter and two servants at “Dingley”, Underhill Road, Torquay, Devon, where he died on 10 Sep 1912.
