Description

Military M.B.E. Gazetted 19 Apr 1945: "Capt. Bennett has served with 56 London Div. Provost Coy. since 26 Feb '43. The high standard of discipline and leadership set by Capt. Bennett is abundantly shown in the very efficient duties carried out by the Div. Pro. Coy. both during active operations and during the extended approach movements preceding them. Capt. Bennett is quite untiring and completely disregards his personal safety in his efforts to ensure that operational and maintenance routes are clearly marked and controlled right up to the rear of the forward troops. The battles of CAINO, GARIGLIANO, ANZIO and the recent operations in the GOTHIC Line have all presented great traffic difficulties. These were smoothed out almost entirely by the continual recconnaisance and quick decisions of Capt. Bennett. Such operations must be largely dependent on traffic organisation and in the Divisional sector the untiring efforts of Capt. Bennett were a major contribution to the successful results achieved."

M.I.D. Gazetted 11 Jan 1945. M.I.D. Gazetted 29 Apr 1952: "In recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Korea."

Charles Bennett was first served with the Corps of Military Police as a Sergeant before being assigned to the Infantry General List on 14 May 1943 and was serving as Temporary Captain when he was awarded his M.B.E., then joining the 9th Lancers and appointed Lieutenant with the Royal Armoured Corps on 30 June 1948.
