Adolf Bock was a well-known German maritime artist appointed Professor by Hitler in 1944, also the designer and producer of the Kriegsmarine High Seas Fleet badge.
This seascape is after Claus Bergen's famous 'A Wreath in the North Sea in Memory of the Battle of Jutland', circa 1937, housed in Greenwich's National Maritime Museum.
In 2007, Germany requested the return of Bergen's work which had been looted from Murwik Naval Academy, Flensburg in 1945 by British troops.
It is not known in which building Bock's work was housed during WWII.
