Stephen Life was born in Harbertonford, Devon, the son of William and Susanna Life of Washbourne, Harbertonford, Devon and was serving with the 7th Battalion, Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) when he was Killed In Action on 3 May 1917, aged 21 years.

He is remembered on the Arras Memorial.
