Murdoch McRae was born in Crow, Kintail, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland in 1826 and attested with the 92nd Highlanders on 4 July 1845, serving in the Ionian Islands, East Indies and Gibraltar, for a total of 21 years and 30 days service, discharged on 3 Oct 1866.
