Description

Harold Sichel Hillier was born in Merton, Surrey in 1888, the only son of Henry William and Margaret Hiller and sister of Heline and Marguerite Hillier and living at 396 Kingston Road, Surrey and 17 Cambridge Road, Wimbledon.

Hillier worked for Lloyds as a broker before joining the City of London Yeomanry on 23 Jan 1911, serving at home from 5 Aug 1914 to 11 Apr 1915, disembarking at Gallipoli on 20 Oct 1915.

Hillier was discharged as time expired on H.M.T. "Manitou" on 15 Jan 1916.

Hillier then rejoined and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant with the Northumberland Hussars from Cadet on 29 July 1916, entering France on 16 July 1918.
