Mitchell, E. Surr. R. Accompanied by seven Royal Guernsey Militia silver hallmarked spoons (London contemporary) named 'Won by Q.M. Sgt. J. Mitchell' dated 1902 to 1908. (185g approx. total weight). Son's medals: WWI Pair of War & Victory Medals to 2.Lieut. F. Mitchell.

Description

John Mitchell was born in Stockport, Cheshire in 1861 and lived at Town Arsenal, St. Peter Port, Guernsey and served with the East Surrey Regiment and Royal Guernsey Militia as Quarter Master Sergeant.

Mitchell's 'Peace Gazette' Meritorious Service Medal appears on his WWI Medal Index Card as his sole medal entilement after the issue of the Victorian Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. His son, Frank Mitchell, was born in Guernsey and served as an officer with the East Kent Regiment during WWI, entitled to the WWI pair of War & Victory Medals.
