Sidney Todd Martin was born in 1890, the son of Reverend W.T. Martin and Catherine Martin of College House, College Green, Belfast. Educated at Campbell College from 1903 to 1909, he represented the school in rugby and cricket before attending Sussex College, where he was a member of the Officer Training Corps and studying for the Bar in London, applying for a commission on the outbreak of war. He served with the 6th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers at Gallipoli and was wounded at Suvla Bay in Aug 1915. Attached to the 1st Battalion when he was Killed In Action on The First Day of The Somme on 1 July 1916. He is commemorated at Thiepval Memorial.
