Description

Arthur Thomas Hammond was born in Cardiff in 1877 and lived in Old Village Road, Barry, Glamorgan, marrying Edith Grogan in Cardiff in July 1907 and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant with the 7th (Cyclist) Battalion, Welsh Regiment on 11 Dec 1912. Promoted to Captain on 25 Nov 1914, Hammond entered France omn 28 Sep 1918, transferred to 6th Battalion, Welsh Regiment on 1 Jan 1922, conferred the Territorial Decoration on 13 Oct 1920 and retiring on 29 Dec 1926 with the rank of Major.
