Description

M.B.E. Gazetted 3 June 1919: "For services in connection with the war." Alexander Philip Percival was born in 1875 in Winchester, Hampshire, the son of Major General L. Percival. Educated at Headmaster's House, Harrow, Percival moved to Bodowen, Portmadoc, North Wales and was commissioned into the 8th (Service) Battalion on 23 Oct 1914, South Wales Borderers, promoted Temporary Captain 1 Feb 1915  and entered France on 4 Sep 1915. Admitted to 42nd General Hospital on 20 Oct 1916, Percival was invalided to England on H.S. Lanfranc with malaria.
