Description

Herbert Windham Adams was born on 9 Mar 1879 in Norwood, Surrey, the son of Baldwin Dacres Adams and Helen Georgiana Adams, living at 103 Belevedere Road, South Bank, London. Adams matriculated at University College, Oxford in 1898 and was a Blues rowing Oxford crew member in 1901, and number 5 in 1902 (beaten on both occasions by Cambridge). Commissioned Second Lieutenant of the Army Service Corps on  13 Nov 1915, Adams was posted to Egypt on 26 Dec 1915 and appointed Temporary Staff Lieutenant on 8 Feb 1919 and awarded the M.B.E. Military Division 3 June 1919, discharged on 31 July 1922.
