Description

Joseph Richard Currie was born in Holbeck, Leeds, Yorkshire and worked as a Marble Polisher, living at 6 Ford Street, Hunslet, Yorkshire, first serving with the Northern Command Telegraph Company, Royal Engineers.

On the outbreak of WWI he enlisted with the West Yorkshire Regiment on 25 Sep 1914 and entered France on 17 Apr 1915, entitling him to a 1914-15 Star, transferring to the 27th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, Leicestershire Regiment, and finally the Labour Corps.
