Military Medal 8 Sep 1916:
"At Mouquet Farm on 25/26th August 1916, this N.C.O. established a post at point 22 and held it till 10 a.m. on 26th August, when it was blown in by the enemy. He then held shell holes blocking the enemy advance, until the shelling ceased when he reoccupied his post and consolidated it. Though the post was again blown in during the evening, Corp. Mundell held on to it until relieved on the morning of the 27th August."
Arthur Mundell was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the son of John and Jessie Mundell of 127 Northbourne St., Elswick Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, enlisting with the Australian Infantry Force on 19 Apr 1915 in Melbourne, proceeding with the 24th Battalion (late 2nd Reinforcements 21st Battalion) to Gallipoli on 30 Aug 1915 serving with "A" Coy., 24th Battalion, A.I.F. when he was Killed In Action on 14 Mar 1917, aged 32 years.
He is buried at Beaulencourt British Cemetery, Ligny-Thilloy.
