Description

John Leslie Desmond Scholfield served as Midshipman aboard H.M.S. Emerald from 6 Jan 1941 and as Lieutenant aboard the destroyer, H.M.S. Faulknor from Jan 1944 and H.M.S. Zenith at the tail end of WWII, entilting him to the maximum number of medals and clasps. a stint with H.M.S. Vanguard followed before Scholfield was promoted to Lt. Cdr. on 16 May 1952, and appointed in command of H.M.S. Welcome on 21 Sep 1956. on 5 Dec 1957, Scholfield was appointed Staff Officer aboard H.M.S. Eagle and promoted to Commander on 31 Des 1959 aboard H.M.S. Victorious. Scholfield was finally appointed Director General of Naval Training in 1967, Director General of Personal Services Training in 1969 and Director General of Naval Manpower in 1970, before retiring in 1976.
