Description

Albert Champion was born in Battersea, London on 22 Mar 1912, the son of Albert John Champion and Margaret Mary Cherrett, marrying Constance Mary Cherrett in Finsbury in Sep 1938.

Enlisting with the Royal Artillery in the same year, Champion was posted to France on the outbreak of war and was serving with the 101 Light Anti-Aircraft and Anti-Tank Regiment when he was reported missing and declared a Prisoner of War taken between 10 May and 16 June 1940 in Dunkirk.

Held at Stalag 383, Hohenfels, Rhineland, Champion was given a P.O.W. number of 17798 and not liberated until 14 July 1945.
