Description

Walter Howard Lister was the son of Walter and Alice Lister of Hatfield, Doncaster, Yorkshire. Serving with the 57th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery, Lister was killed in the retreat to El Alamein with Lieutenant William James Tomkies on 26 June 1942. Both men are buried in El Alamein War Cemetery. His fellow servicemen sent a letter to his mother to confirm that they had erected wooden crosses at Tomkies' and Lister's graves in 1943.
