Meritorious Service Medal awarded 1978.

Desmond John Griffiths was born on 22 May 1926 and enlisted with the Welsh Guards at Newport on 24 Sep 1940.

The following is from Griffith's Certificate of Service:

'Colour Sergeant Griffiths has been fully trained to be a person in charge of and accounting for all types of military accommodation stores, maintaining stock levels and effecting exchanges or repairs when called upon to do so. He is also a very capable driver up to Group A with a special qualification. For his unblemished military record he was awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal with gratuity in 1962 and the Meritorious Service Medal in 1978. He is thoroughly reliable, honest and trustworthy. He has a good attitude and approach to man management, both military and civilian. He is a man of sober habits and he is thoroughly recommended for any employment within his personal capabilities.'

Griffiths retired in on 26 May 1978, dying in Jan 1983, having devoted his whole life to the Welsh Guards.
