Description

Alfred Bertram Groves was born in West Bromwich, Staffordshire in Oct 1924 and served as 2nd in command of ML (Motor Launch) 100 from 1 June 1944, Captained by T/S.Lt. J.E. Branch, R.N.V.R. and particpating as part of the 51st Motor Launch Flotilla in laying mines to protect the convoys for the D-Day Landings of Operation Neptune. Groves then served at HMS Astraea base, Lagos, Nigeria before HM British Yard Minesweeper 2034 from Apr 1946 and HMS Motor Minesweeper 1080 from 27 Apr 1946.
