Joseph Eustace Fishbourne was the surgeon at Walcot House, Hillsborough, Sheffield and served as Surgeon-Major during the Afghan War with the Khyber Field Force and Peshawar Valley Field Force, I.C. 2nd Div. Field Hospital at Jamrud and with 1st Div. Field Hospital at Jalalabad and with the 4th Battalion Rifle Brigade and in charge of I.C. Field Hospital of Bunnoo Column Mahsud Waziristan Expeditionary Force, during the advance into Waziristan, May 1881. Fishbourne received the thanks of the Governor General of India for services during the cholera epidemics in 1869 and 1879. Latterly, he was appointed medical charge of Garrison Sheffield Barracks and made Lt. Col. and Honorary Brigadier Surgeon, publishing to the medical journals "Enteric Fever of Egypt & Sudan", dying on 16 Mar 1909.
