Description

Military Medal Gazetted 3 Jan 1920: "For bravery in the field with the British Forces in North Russia Archangel Command." George Went was born in Colchester, Essex in 1889, the son of George Went and Catherine Canham. He is listed as a soldier from Colchester, Essex on the Delhi Durbar roll 1911 and entered France with the Royal Lancaster Regiment on 28 Apr 1915. Went was taken as a German Prisoner of War with the 2nd Battalion whilst serving with "D" Company. Transferring to the 46th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, Went was decorated for bravery in 1919 in North Russia before joining the 1st Battalion, Welch Regiment and serving in Waziristan.
