R.R.C. 2nd Class Gazetted 24 Oct 1917.

Newspaper extract records the following from the recipient: "I served in the military hospital during the 1914-18 war as a Red Cross nurse and after receiving the Royal Red Cross. I was passing the common room door in our billets when I heard a voice saying: 'She hasn't altered a bit since getting her medal. I think that was the nicest compliment I could have had.'" Mary Heywood lived at 8 Victoria Road, Sale, Cheshire and served at Linden Lea Auxiliary Military Hospital on Brooklands Road, Sale from 16 May 1915, then 2nd Western General Hsopital, Manchester, Tootal Road Military Hospital, Weast Whitworth Street Military Hospital and Manchester Leaf Square Military Hospital.
