The following is an extract from the Evening Express 27 Sep 1944:
"Awards for Drowning Rescues - Mr D. Eaton, the presiding magistrate at Bootle Police Court, yesterday, presented the Shipwreck and Humane Society's certificate, bronze medal, and £1 to James Walmsley, 22 years, ship's plumber, of Alt-road, Bootle, who dived into the canal at Bootle and saved a three-year old child from drowning in August."
