Hallmarked silver (Sheffield 1937) cigarette box inscribed: 'Presented to Lieut. Colonel A.G. Sanderson, O.B.E. Royal Marines on his retirement from the Headquarters Staff of the Corps' with accompanying facsimile signatures.

Description

Alfred George Sanderson was born on 14 Apr 1883 in St. Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings, Sussex and enlisted with the Royal Marine Artillery on 2 May 1901 and served throughout the majority of WWI on the General Staff, entitling him to the 1914-15 Trio & L.S.G.C. Medal. Sanderson was promoted to Lieutenant-Quartermaster in 1923 and Major-Quartermaster from 1924 until reaching the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1934 and being awarded the O.B.E. (Gazetted 1935), the Jubille Medal 1935 and Coronation Medal 1937.
