Description

Jack Garner was born in 1919 in Edinburgh, the son of Robert and Maria Garner. He served with The Scots Greys in Palestine, still then a mounted cavalry regiment. By 1941, the regiment had officially become part of the Royal Armoured Corps and converting to Grant tanks to tackle Rommel's Afrika Korps at Alasm El Halfa and El Alamein. Trooper Jack Garner died of wounds inflicted near Salerno on 18 Sep 1943, aged 24 and is buried at Salerno War Cemetery.
