Carter, R.A.F.; Navigator's Flying Log Book covering the period 8 May 1952 to 31 Aug 1961 to include photograph and map inserts of Operation Grapple at Christmas Island and Aircrew Flying Log Book covering the period 1 Aug 1966 to 19 May 1969.
Description

Kenneth Christopher Carter entered service with the R.A.F. as a Cadet Navigator on 21 Nov 1951 and appointed Acting Flying Officer on 9 Apr 1952, Flying Officer on 10 Dec 1958 and promoted to Flight Lieutenant on 21 Aug 1963. Carter flew with 44 Squadron and 76 Squadron, latterly flying helicopters, before arriving at Christmas Island on 16 Apr 1957 and taking part in Operation Grapple's atomic tests, with 3 weapons dropped from his Canberra, recorded in his log book. Opertaion Grapple resulted in the UK becoming the third recognised world thermonuclear power. Carter finally retired on 28 Jun 1970.
