Description

Arthur Brand was born in Heywood, Lancashire and worked as a Weaver before joining the 1st Volunteer Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. Attesting with the Lancashire Fusiliers at Bury in Feb 1902, Brand was posted to South Africa on 1 Apr 1902 and served until 30 July 1902, before being discharged at his own request on 1 Aug 1902. Re-enlisting with the Lancashire Fusiliers, Brand was posted to Gallipoli on 5 May 1915 and was badly wounded, entitled to the Silver War Badge and discharged on 15 Dec 1915, later joining the Army Pay Corps.
